Mainland Baby Business Booming

An impressive 4,233 expectant parents and parents of babies and preschoolers descended on the Westpac Arena for two days last month to keep up with their number one passion – being a parent. And the lucky exhibitors who met with them there reaped the rewards.

It resembled a sea of bellies, babies, buggies and bags. Yes, they came, they saw, they shopped. But what’s so unique about this mass of people is that they’re all in the same intensely important time of life – absolutely focussed on it - and thus the exchange between exhibitor and visitor is profound and powerful.

SpongeBob Squarepants headlined the entertainment stage and was backed up by a number of local dance groups and other acts. The free parenting seminars with subjects close to parents hearts were also a great draw-card, but it was the 80+ exhibitors and their information, services and products that were irresistible to visitors.

Frances from Breastmates, purveyors of fine maternity lingerie, couldn’t have summed up the exhibitor feedback better, “I just wanted to say thank you for a great show! After exhibiting Breastmates.co.nz at the Auckland show for a few years, it was the first time we had ventured to Christchurch. The crowd was different to the Auckland crowd, and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. People were willing to stop and chat, and were really interested to learn about our products. I will definitely be coming back to Christchurch next year."

The ASG Parent and Child Show in Christchurch will now become ‘an annual’ due to positive support from both exhibitors and visitors.
