15th anniversary Auckland Show wrap up

If the 2008 Show was a newborn baby it would be a bouncing 10-pounder!

The 15th ASG Parent and Child Show saw close to 14,000 adult visitors attend — up on the previous year.

Despite doom and gloom about the economy, visitors to the Show were in a spending mood with many exhibitors selling out of products. In addition to Show specials, visitors also enjoyed Show give-aways and samples and made the most of all the information on offer.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Show, there was a balloon release and morning tea at the Auckland Museum that gained front page coverage in the NZ Herald. There was also a cheeky baby photo competition in the Suburban Newspapers Group that saw hundreds of proud parents from all over Auckland sending in cute photos.

Congratulations to Suzette Gregory, whose daughter Ella was named the cutest baby in the competition. And best wishes to Paige Son, who won the MORE FM Labour Day promotion when she gave birth to a gorgeous girl at 12.38am on Labour Day. Congratulations also to the many other prize winners on Classic Hits, Easy Mix and Newstalk ZB, who took home great goodie bags kindly supplied by Show exhibitors.

At the Auckland Show, the free education seminars were a huge hit, with US learning expert Dr Bob Titzer sharing his methods for teaching babies and young children to read. He was also interviewed by Breakfast television and is due to appear on leading news show Close Up.

Local experts Diane Levy and Kathy Fray were also very well received by people enthusiastic to hear about their many years of baby and child rearing expertise. Diane shared advice from her three books, which were on sale along with The Littlies Book of Answers that she wrote with other columnists to the popular parenting magazine. Kathy Fray’s expertise includes how to interpret a baby’s different cries, making her a popular presenter at the Show.

Companies represented at the Show included Huggies, Treasures, Mountain Buggy, The Baby Factory and many of the other leading pregnancy, baby and child care companies. Smaller companies were also there in force, ensuring that the ASG Parent and Child Show continues to offer everything for pregnancy to primary school under one roof.

The ASG Parent and Child Show is loved by parents because of our focus on helping them prepare for their most important role yet. It’s something North Port Events feels strongly about and we are already working on our plans for next year’s Show.
